Many independent City States cover the Black Peninsula, their culture even more ancient than the great Reman Empire. Their war tactics revolve around ritual pitched battles involving hundreds or thousands of armored Hoplites in dense formations of shield and spear! Their bravery and strength was legendary during their long rule over their Peninsula and surrounding territories. The City State of Thebai located in the central plains of the Black Peninsula controlled vast regions and many of the smaller cities were brought under the Thebain influence. The Thebain Phalanxes held strong for many centuries as they held back the barbarian tribes of Men from the North and the vicious Orcs and evil Dwarfs in the East! Today their cities are in ruins, but their legacy remains as the Reman Empire grew much of Thebain culture was borrowed and their philosophers taught many Reman leaders the ways of logic, science and politics. Their tactics on the battlefield were adapted by the Legionaries of Remas and even today in the Pike Levies of Tilea and the Border Princes.
